The 28th Annual National Lentil Fest celebrates the little legume August 19th and 20th in Pullman.

Festival Director Alexandria Anderson said she hopes the event brings an awareness of the growers.

“It can be hard if you didn’t grow up on a farm, you just don’t understand the way of life. Hopefully the Lentil Festival just gives them a good scope on how hard they’re working and how much they benefit, not just our region but everywhere in general.”

The Festival will have live cooking demonstrations, music, a lentil cook-off, and a charity event where they box meals to give to kids who are less fortunate.

The event used to be a celebration of the end of the harvest season, but it was moved up and now not only brings awareness to lentils, but it is an unofficial kickoff to the school year for WSU and University of Idaho.

“We also hear from lots of the business people and Pullman, Moscow locals and they just love the event. It gives them a sense of community. We have lots of good outreach programs with our non-profit night. It’s an economic driver in our area too. We’re bringing in tourists from all over the world.”
