While much of the attention this years has been focused on the trade war with China, USMCA and expanding markets, Representative Dan Newhouse said addressing Ag labor shortages remains a priority in D.C.  The Central Washington Republican says while slow, work has continued since the start of the year to address the balance between immigration reform and ensuring the farming community has the help it needs come harvest time.  Newhouse added while the work has been difficult, he feels a lot of progress has been made.

“We’ve had certainly many of the agricultural organizations meeting with the labor side of the equation as well, and like I’ve said, there’s been good discussions, good conversations, and there’s been some real progress.”

While he did not offer specifics, Newhouse said he’s hopeful they will be able to report on that progress “very soon”.
