Pests can be a major problem for any commodity across the Northwest.  But thanks to extensive research and aggressive practices, many of those issues don’t become big problems for the potato industry.  Chris Voigt Executive Director with the Washington state Potato Commission said one such pest is Late Blight.  He told the Washington Ag Network while Late Blight is a yearly occurrence the potato industry has it virus under control.

“There’s some great management practices for controlling Late Blight.  SO, even though it shows up we’re still able to control it.  It’s never been able to really devastate a crop or cause huge losses."

Voigt added they are encouraging members to be more vigilant when searching fields for Late Blight in the 2018 growing season.
