June Proves Bigger Month than Expected for Cherries
The cherry harvest is beginning the transition to more the late season varieties with the bing crop producing strong numbers.
The numbers were so strong in June, they surpassed expectations of around 900,000 boxes. Throughout the five state region monitored by Northwest Cherries, more than 10.2 million 20-pound boxes, or equivalent, have shipped.
In a newsletter, Northwest Cherries said the warmer temperatures pushed harvest forward in some districts which is why the June numbers were so big.
Tuesday July 11th is National Rainier Cherry Day, another popular variety which has shipped more than one million boxes so far this season.
