Is Insurance Enough In The Event Of A Wildfire?
Homeowners insurance will help protect you from fire, but Kenton Brine, president of the Northwest Insurance Council, said it might not cover the cost of rebuilding.
"In some cases, people have found out after the disaster occurs that they have insurance coverage, but not enough to fully replace their home and its contents," he pointed out.
Some insurance policies increase the value with inflation; there are also policies that cover the cost of rebuilding. Brine said it's important to ask your insurance company before a disaster.
"They can adjust their policy, they can get a different policy, they can shop around for different coverages, but it starts with a call to your company or your agent to make sure you understand what your policy covers and where it may fall short."
While a homeowners policy covers personal items inside your home, there are limits. If you have high-value items, like jewelry, you can increase the policy, so that item is covered.
