The International Master Gardener Conference, which occurs every two years, will be taking place in Portland next July.

OSU’s Gail Langellotto said this a coup for the Northwest.

“It really is a bit of an honor and it comes with a bit of prestige to be seen as a good place to host a conference and be a gathering point for master gardeners and others with an interest in sustainable gardening.”

The five-day event is open to anyone whether they are a master gardener, interested in becoming a master gardener, or just have a personal garden.

Langellotto said the event will feature keynote speeches by Dan Hinckley on plants and landscaping, John Marzluff from University of Washington on birds and Renee Shepherd who will discuss seeds.

“It’s an opportunity for master gardener volunteers to get together to learn about sustainable gardening, to meet other master gardeners from across the United States, Canada and South Korea and really to celebrate the great things master gardeners do.”

There will also be a variety of classes, tours of gardens, workshops and much more.

Early bird registration is now open. For more details, visit the event's website.
