Inslee Signs Agritourism Legislation

Last week, Governor Jay Inslee signed legislation limiting liability for ag business that open their operations to the public for agritourism activities.  Senate Bill 5808 received near unanimous approval from lawmakers.

“Anyone who wants to educate consumers on from where their food comes, should be protected under this bill.”

Warnick told the Washington Ag Network she’s hopeful this law will encourage additional operations to explore agritourism.  She says not only can it serve as another source of income for farmers, it can help the community at large understand the important role agriculture plays in the economy.

“They are the basis of the economy, especially in Eastern Washington, and food doesn’t just come from Safeway.  So, I’m hoping more families will be able to go out and see where the farms are and what the farms do.”

The new law goes into effect July 22^nd.
