Idaho’s Lucy Barney National Winner At National FFA Convention
Congratulations to Lucy Barney, she was named National FFA’s 2024 Proficiency Winner in Equine Science – Placement at this year’s National FFA Convention & Expo. The young woman from Rigby said the opportunity to travel back to Indianapolis and represent the Idaho farming community was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
"You've got all of these FFA members from anywhere from Puerto Rico to New York. And it's amazing to see all of these kids that might be different, but they're all united by agriculture. And that was really cool for me to see."
Barney added it was also special to meet with her competitors in the Equine Science Division and learn about their unique projects. She added that she’s become pretty good friends with those competitors.
And her words to any young people considering joining their local FFA chapter? Don’t be afraid, and go for it.
“FFA is amazing and it will give you so many opportunities to become a better leader," she said. "And even if you didn't grow up on a farm, that's OK. There's competitions and so many things available."
