Idaho Cattle Association Meeting Transitioning On-line

The Idaho Cattle Association’s annual Convention and Trade Show was scheduled for the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa Monday and Tuesday. But because of the recent increase in COVID-19 cases across the state, the in-person event has been canceled. However, the ICA is working on holding a virtual event.

One of the issues that will be front and center during the on-line activities the threat of disappearing farm land. Cameron Mulrony, ICA Executive Vice President said the conversion of farm and ranch land into non-Ag use is a concern not just in the U.S., but worldwide.

“I think us in Ag know it’s a concern, but hopefully we can get a little insight from this report, that shows us what we need to do, or what can be done possibly in the future to make sure we can maintain viable farm ground and keep agricultural operations in business.”

Mulrony noted Farm and ranch land is so critical for Idaho and the entire Northwest for a variety of reasons. While it may disappointing not being able to meet in person in Nampa, Mulrony said it’s important that cattle producers participate in this year’s Convention.

“We want people to see what Idaho’s cattle industry is doing for our state, and then hopefully gain a little education on a few different topics that could help their operation and also make sure you have a voice in policy.”
