Almost 600 people descended upon the Walla Walla Valley for the annual Celebrate Walla Walla Valley Wine event, which this year feature Syrah.

Presentations included the Valley’s growing conditions, vineyards and a winemaker panel.

Wine & Spirits Senior Correspondent Patrick Comiskey says he’s noticed an uptick in interest in Syrah in recent years and that winemakers in the area should let the varietal be its wild self, keep it interesting and expressive of the place from which it grows.

Next year’s Celebrate event will focus on Merlot and takes place from June 14-16th.
