Hot weather Expected To Continue For Weeks

The Inland Northwest is baking under an intense heatwave that’s not expected to break anytime soon.  Dennis Hull with the National Weather Service says the above average temperatures are thanks to an upper level ridge that has parked over the west.  In addition, an Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for much of Central Washington for Wednesday afternoon through the end of the week.  Hull said with this hot weather, it’s important to take proper precautions to ensure you and your workers are safe.

"Not only for yourself, but for your livestock, I think the heat stress on livestock is going to decrease the milk production, but you don’t want to be working your livestock moving them around too much during the hottest part of the day.”

Hull said he thinks the above average temperatures will stick around for the next couple of weeks.

“I don’t see this heatwave breaking until the middle part of the month, and then longer term outlooks show maybe 7-10 days of getting down closer to normal and then going back to above normal toward the end of the month.”

Hull predicted that several daily high records will be set during this heat wave.  Hull added with the high temperatures and low humidity its important wheat farmers take additional precautions during harvest to ensure fires don’t start and spread.
