The USDA’s Economic Research Service has released the results of a study that focuses on income in rural areas.

One discovery of the research, according to Economist Alexander Marre, is that those in urban areas generally make more money than people in rural areas.

“For example, rural workers with a high school diploma earn roughly $2,000 less than urban workers with a high school diploma.”

Marre said that gap becomes worse for workers with more education.

“That grows to $18,000 if you’re looking at workers with a graduate or professional degree in rural and urban areas.”

Marre did note that this difference does not take into account the costs to get college degrees which could make the move not worth it.
