Dan Halstrom has been tapped to take over the reigns at the U.S. Meat Exporting Federation.  The announcement came at USMEF’s Spring Conference in Virginia.  Halstrom will become president on September 1st, and eventually pick up the CEO role on December 1st.  Halstrom, has 34 years of international efforts, both at USMEF and in the private sector.

"I’ve seen it transition from the stating phases where we were sending one box samples of beef livers or pork loin to Japan, or beef liver to Egypt.  It’s now transitioned into a $12billion industry, and it’s just an exciting opportunity.”

Halstrom acknowledged he has big shoes to fill, but notes he’s make the transition with a talented USMEF team.

“Nobody is going to replace Phil Seng especially when it comes to his relationships with Asia over the years, he’s an icon.  So, I don’t look to replace Phil I look to complement Phil.”

Halstrom added he learned a lot from Seng, both as an employee and as a board member.
