For the last two years, grocery store food prices have fallen.  But, that string could come to an end this year.

"We're expecting to pay 0.5-1.5% more over all in 2018 than we did in 2017," said food price economist Annemarie Kuhns.  She said while we are seeing farm level and whole sale prices for many commodities fall.  In fact, some prices are below figures reported this time last year.  Kuhn said there are many factors, behind whole sale prices impacting what we pay at the grocery store.

"Costs associated with transportation in general, whether it' because of an increase in oil prices or an increase in trucking rates, stuff becomes more expensive in 2018."

Four food categories that could, perhaps, see prices drop from 2017 figures, and that includes pork, fats and oils, processed fruits and vegetables, and non-alcoholic beverages.
