Local and National diesel prices have held steady most of this year, and you can thanks oil prices that have not fluctuated much since January 1st.

“It’s been a fairly non-eventful year so far," said GasBuddy.com's Patrick DeHaan.  "In fact kind of backwards if you look at it, oil prices to begin the year, were largely higher than they stand today.”

Currently, the national average for a gallon of diesel is hovering around $2.49, a decrease of two cents from this time last week.  Meanwhile the Washington average held steady at $2.86 a gallon, while Oregon’s average slipped one cent to $2.69 a gallon.

And while DeHaan wouldn’t guarantee steady prices this summer, he says there’s no reason to believe fuel prices will rocket up any time soon.

“There will be some minor volatility in prices, they will certainly fluxuate, there’s no perfect world where gas prices remain stable throughout the summer, but I think we’ll be range bound, and oil prices will likely continue to trade in the range of $46 to $53 a barrel that we’ve seen for half of the year.”

DeHaan was quick to note that a sudden increase in demand could impact prices.  Here are some of the lowest diesel prices we could find across the Inland Northwest:

  • $2.67 a gallon in the Tri-Cities
  • $2.56 a gallon in Pendleton
  • $2.87 a gallon in Walla Walla
  • $2.66 a gallon in Yakima
  • $2.68 a gallon in Moses Lake
  • $2.77 a gallon in Quincy
  • $2.71 a gallon in Wenatchee
