FSA Looking For More Accurate Acreage Reporting Numbers

FSA is looking to modernizing the farm acreage reporting process.

“I use the word transformative," noted Agriculture Department Undersecretary for Farm Production and Conservation Richard Fordyce.  "It is going to be an opportunity for us to really provide better customer service to farmers that annually come in and do an acreage report. It's going to be, I think, more accurate, more representative of what's actually happening on that farm.”

Fordyce added a modernized reporting pilot program is underway for counties within 12 states.  This effort uses digital and geospatial technologies for what Fordyce described as a more streamlined process for both producers and local USDA service center staff.

With the acreage reporting deadline for most spring planted crops July 15th, he noted growers in those pilot counties are, “Gonna be able to experience the new platform and the new process for acreage reporting.”
