Friday has been designated as National Farmer's Day, a day set aside for all Americans to pay tribute to Farmers and all that they do not only gather our food and fiber but helping our local economies.  As the Farm to Fork movement becomes more and more popular, the Ag community is trying to tell consumers what's truly happening on the farm.  Dairy Farmer Nate Chittenden says many don't realize that nationwide 97% of dairy farms are family owned and operated.

"We're caring for our cows, every single day, giving them everything they need, to make the wonderful dairy products that you get to enjoy.  So when you're buying those dairy products in the grocery store, or enjoying them at a restaurant, you know that you are supporting a local family, that bushiness, and in turn it's helping to build your community and helping to keep it vibrant."

A recent survey by the Undeniably Dairy campaign found that 51% of Americans said they would be interested in moving to a farm if given the opportunity.

That same survey also found:

  • 80% of consumers are interested in meeting with a farmer to discuss farming
  • 7 out of 10 think it’s important to get to know the farmer who make the food they eat
  • 73% view locally sourced food as very or extremely appealing

Be sure to say thank you to the Agriculture industry on Friday, but using the hashtag #NationalFarmersDay when you post on social media.
