Tuesday marks the anniversary of two landmarks acts designed to preserve, enhance, and promote a key part of our nation's history and natural resources.

"We're at the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, and the National Trail Systems Act,” said Jamie Schmidt of the US Forest Service.

She is among many celebrating these milestones, not just on October 2nd, the actual date both acts were signed into law, but year 'round, with events planned nation-wide both along the many trail systems and river systems in the U.S.  Schmidt added events and activities are organized and conducted by a wide range of partners.

"We have been collaborating together to celebrate the 50th anniversary and actually to leverage it to raise awareness and appreciation and support."

Information on events connected to both the national trail system and the wild and scenic rivers act 50th anniversary can be found at the U.S. Forest Service website.
