WSU is asking apple producers to take part in a short survey that’s part of a USDA grant on the future of research when it comes to precision agriculture in the apple industry.

Karina Gallardo with WSU said the goal is to develop new science and tools that can help with production and other aspects of farming.

“We plan to develop tools that growers can use immediately or are already readily available so it won’t be something that’s stored in a theoretical box or in a journal paper.”

The online survey will ask about the state of knowledge of producers, what their thoughts are on experts in the industry.

Gallardo said this survey can show just how important precision agriculture is to the apple industry and whether that is something that should be pursued.

“Not much research has been done in apple or tree fruit in general, but we want hear from the growers if they think this will help them or not and how it could help them.”
