Farmers Need More Help Now, Boozman Stresses
Solutions to the farm crisis have been painfully slow, something Senate Ag Chair John Boozman acknowledged at a recent fertilizer hearing, as he pressed for more farm aid as soon as possible. The Republican from Arkansas said USDA's efforts and proposed bills to boost fertilizer supplies and reduce prices may help in the long-term, but farmers need help now.
“In the immediate future, Congress must provide additional assistance to supplement what USDA provided with the farmer bridge payments and the assistance for specialty crops farmers’ programs,” he said.
Boozman said he’s working with Ag Appropriations Chair John Hoeven and that President Trump has acknowledged more farm aid is needed. Other farm crisis answers, like a House-passed Farm Bill, also seem iffy, with Boozman facing Ag Democrats opposed to GOP SNAP reforms.
“Congress owes our producers an updated farm bill that will complement the improvements we made last year in the One Big Beautiful Bill," Boozman said. "And I’m committed to making that happen.”
