Farm Economy Is Not Doing Too Great, Washington Hay President Notes
For many commodities, it’s been the theme of most of 2025; the farm economy is not doing well.
“Money's kind of hanging out there, with the little asterisk next to it saying, ‘OK, maybe I'll get some money here in the next three months, maybe in the next six months, maybe it won’t be at all.’,' said Andrew Eddie, President of the Washington State hay Growers Association. "So, things are definitely tight in the Ag economy.”
The Farm Economy Has Struggled For Years
Eddie added what makes this soft farm economy even more challenging is the length of this downturn. He noted the Ag economy, in general, has been struggling not for months but for years.
"It's not just one downturn year, you can weather one, you know maybe two and now we're on our third year of low prices and high cost and a lot of money hanging out there," Eddie said. "So, overall, I think hopefully we kind of get in a little better situation as a whole, but we'll kind of see what see what shakes out in the next little while.”
