The Senate Ag Committee passed a bipartisan farm bill in under three-hours, adding just a handful of amendments.  It was a stark contrast to the purely partisan effort in the House Ag Committee.

“Certainty and predictability especially during these very difficult times, is absolutely paramount to any other concern,” said Senate Ag Chairman Pat Roberts.

“Over the past year and a half we’ve put our political differences aside and focused on listening to people who have a stake in the Farm Bill,” added Top Senate Ag Democrat Debbie Stabenow.  “From farmers to rural leaders to conservationists to food advocates, we heard loud and clear that they need the certainty of a five-year Farm Bill.”

Only one Senator, Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley voted ‘no’ on the bill that lacks his farm manager payment limits and includes hemp legalization he says the Judiciary panel he chairs, has jurisdiction over.
