WSU’s Ravenholt Lecture Series will focus on the impact of the wide variety of climates on vineyards and winemaking on March 17th.

Kaury Balcom said it’s important to recognize that we see some fairly extreme climates in the Inland Northwest.

“WSU does a lot of research in the vineyards, especially in cold hardiness, and a lot of that research translates here. What can our growers do to combat some of those extreme temperatures in the winter and then what can we do to anticipate the hotter summers.”

The symposium will focus on impacts on wine production, snowpack, water availability and include Derek Sandison, speakers from Germany and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory amongst others.

Balcom stressed, “We really don’t get opportunities to have specific education seminars like this so we really want to encourage people to participate and we really brought out experts from all over the world.”

The event runs from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with a social afterwards. If you want to attend, there is limited space so Balcom suggested registering earlier, and you can do so at the event's website.
