Ecology and WSDA Issue Penalties Against Producers
The Washington State Department of Ecology announced this week fines and penalties for the second quarter of 2017, including two growers for illegal burning.
One Adams County orchard was fined $2,500 for burning tree roots and other orchard materials without a permit and a Grant County producer was fined $2,000 for burning apple boxes, treated posts and other material.
The Washington State Department of Agriculture fined the Cascade Irrigation District for applying pesticides too close to a pear orchard as they treated a canal maintenance road. The manager who oversaw the application at the time has been $450 and his license was suspended for nine days.
