The USDA is offering early termination options for some CRP landowners if they want to help establish new, beginning farmers.

Deputy Under Secretary Lanon Baccam said it’s all about gaining access to land.

“Producers can transfer their land to a new beginning farmer and these farmers have an opportunity to get into the business more easily than they have before.”

The termination option is available CRP contracts designed to introduce grasses and legumes, the establishment of permanent native grasses, tree planting and more.

Baccam said they are trying to help find the next generations of producers.

“A lot of new beginning farmers are looking for ways to get into the ag business but are having challenges finding access land.”

The early terminations should also free up CRP contracts and land to allow more high-need conservation practices an opportunity to sign up for CRP.
