The fates of the Columbia and Snake river dams remain up in the air, after a Federal Judge ordered that more water be spilled over the eight dams to improve fish returns.  Washington state Representative Mary Dye said that ruling, does not use science.  She said there have been significant improvements in fish returns.

"The improvements really started in the mid-90s, when we were able to really invest in some critical infrastructure that was needed.  One was the fish weirs on the dams and then the other is the screens that went down in front of the turbines that helped redirect offspring.”

Dye also noted the predictions by NOAA and biologists have come to fruition.  Dye added it’s a false narrative to believe tearing down the dams will instantly improved the current fish environment.

“No, you just open up a whole bunch of problems that you don’t have anything to use to help solve those problems.  The whole thing is that we have infrastructure in place that is working now, and let’s work within that, and stop trying to do something radical.”
