Duvall Stresses The Importance Of USMCA
Many in farm country would say USMCA is one of America’s most important trade agreements. And that agreement is up for renewal. American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall said a strong farm economy is driven by healthy international trade.
“Canada and Mexico are by far America’s largest trading partners," Duvall said. "Together, they spend almost $60 billion on agricultural products every year. And the agreement benefits America's families, too. A recent study by Purdue University shows that without USMCA, families would have paid $700 more per year on groceries.”
Duvall added the extension of USMCA has the potential of helping American farmers for nearly the next generation.
“North American trade agreements have enabled year-round availability of certain products and helped develop markets for America’s farmers," Duvall continued. "All three countries are now considering extending USMCA for another 16 years. We support its renewal. Farmers need the certainty that USMCA provides.”
