Diesel prices continue to move higher.  AAA said the national average for a gallon of diesel increase two cents in the past week to $2.22, while Washington’s increase four cents to $2.42 a gallon, an d Oregon’s increase nearly seven cents to $2.31.  So, why the sharp increase

“Right now, it’s all crude price driven and as crude price have strengthened to nearly $45 per barrel it’s really forced diesel price up with it,” said Will Spear with GasBuddy.com.

“I think we’ve found a level where some of these producers have started to hedge and other speculators are trying to take some money off the table," Spear continued. "You know, it doesn’t show it getting much higher than the $45 per barrel range at this moment.  So, I don’t expect this surge to continue much longer.”

Here are some of the lowest diesel prices we could find across the region:

  • $2.15 a gallon in Pasco
  • $2.22 a gallon in Yakima
  • $2.25 a gallon in Wenatchee
  • $2.19 a gallon in Quincy
  • $2.33 a gallon in Walla Walla
  • $2.19 a gallon in Moses Lake
