Late last month, Washington State Representative Tom Dent presented Miss Rodeo America Katherine Merck with a House resolution honoring her achievements.  Dent said there were several reasons he proposed the resolution for the Spokane native.  First, he said Merck’s connection to rural eastern Washington, but she’s also the first Miss Rodeo Washington to be crowned Miss Rodeo America.

“And to me, that said something.  Quite often, you know, the southern states, have a lot higher populations of the cowboy type lifestyle and you know they have more opportunities to develop their talents.  To me, I was just really excited.”

He added Merck is a great representative of the sport, and of our region.

“She’s awesome, and she’s just an awesome human being she’s just a great kid and I can’t be more proud of her.”
