Corn Harvest Going Slowly
Corn is developing nicely according to the USDA, but the harvest is behind schedule, particularly with weather challenges in the Midwest.
USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey said 73 percent of the corn crop is fully mature.
“Totally out of any freeze risk at this point. That’s well ahead of the five-year average of 64 percent.”
Rippey says 15 percent of the corn crop is harvested though, behind the five-year average of 19 percent.
In Washington, 58 percent of corn for silage has been harvested and six percent of grain corn is harvested. In Oregon, 51 percent of silage corn and 12 percent of the grain corn have been harvested.
