USDA’s September Crop Production Forecast released Friday shows this year’s corn crop is expected to be the second highest on record, despite a downward adjustment.  The 15.8 million bushel forecast is projected down 1% from August and 7% year-over-year.

Corn crop yield is also forecasted lower month over month, down over 2%.  Soybean production, meanwhile, received a slight adjustment up from the prior month, with the over billion bushel forecast, less than 1% higher than August. That comes from a 0.1% increase in mean yield forecast.

Lower projections were also issued for this year's cotton crop with a 3% decrease from the previous month and a 5% reduction from last year. Average yield forecast for cotton is down 22 bushels from the previous forecast.
