When you think Cougar Football, what do think?  Hot dogs, tailgates, and, now wine.  This Saturday, just before the Cougs play Colorado, WSU’s viticulture and enology students will offer tastes of select wines from the “Blended Learning” programs.  WSU’s Kaury Balcom told the Washington Ag Network the “Blended Learning” program is very unique.

“We pair our students with winemakers to create those wines, it gives students hand on experience but also gives them access to industry members to learn their craft.”

From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, students will pour two white wines and two red wines, developed in the Tri-Cities. And when you’re in Pullman, looking to purchase a bottle.

“They are going to be offering some specials.  So, if anybody is in Pullman, looking to try the wines and buy the wines there will be some good prices available.”

This weekend’s tasting event coincides with WSU”s Homecoming festivities.

The four wines featured this year include:

  • 2016 Dry Riesling, from Yakima Valley, vineyard: Boushey Vineyards, Yakima Valley, partner winery: Fidelitas
  • 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, from Columbia Valley, vineyard: Bacchus Vineyard, partner winery: Washington State University
  • 2014 Grenache, from Wahluke Slope, vineyard: Milbrandt Vineyards, Clifton Hill, Wahluke Slope, partner Winery: Fidelitas
  • 2013 Barbera, from Yakima Valley, vineyard: Lonesome Spring Ranch, partner winery: Fidelitas
