Young beekeepers have a little extra time to apply for an award by Bayer that recognizes their work.  The Young Beekeeper Award recognizes youth who are working in their community supporting honey bee focused initiatives. This year, three prizes will be awarded to the next generation of beekeepers.

Bayer's Becky Langer, said applications are open to any student who is active in the beekeeping space and is between the ages of 12 and 18.

"That's as long as they have the approval from a legal guardian and a sponsoring mentor.  The original deadline was May 15th, but we know these young beekeepers are focused on wrapping up the school year, so we're extending the deadline to May 31st, to give them a little extra time to prepare their applications."

First prize will receive $3,000, with prizes for second and third place winners, as well.  Langer said protecting pollinators is a priority for Bayer.

“Bayer's been committed to environmental stewardship and protecting bees for nearly 30 years, not only do we want to focus on the solutions to protect pollinators, which are so important for our food production, but we also hope to encourage that next generation of bee keepers who will also do the work to promote honey bee health."

Applications must be submitted before May 31st. To learn more, check out Bayer’s Website.
