Asparagus Commission Partnering with Food Truck Friday

The Washington Asparagus Commission is partnering with Food Truck Friday vendors to celebrate the locally grown vegetable.

Chairman of the Commission Gary Larson says he wants to bring awareness to local growers and domestic asparagus in general.

“Right now we’ve been going for a month and we’re still finding foreign asparagus in our grocery stores and that shouldn’t be.”

Each vendor will be preparing dishes that include asparagus culminating in a competition on the final Friday to determine which vender had the best dish as determined by three celebrity judges.

Larson says asparagus should be an important part of many people’s diets.

“There’s a lot of health benefits to asparagus. There’s some links to cancer fighting agents in asparagus. It’s just a very healthy product. It does a lot for inflammation and stuff like that.”

Food Truck Friday takes place every week in downtown Pasco at the Farmers Market.
