When harvest wraps up for the season, you may think about enjoying some R&R.  If so, AARP has a few tips to make your travels away from the farm or ranch, pain free. AARP’s Sean Voskuhl said plan now to avoid a headache later.

“When you’re heading away from the farm be it a few days or even a few weeks, you need to make sure that you have everything covered.  It’s easy to think about the livestock but, what deliveries will be coming, what bills may need paid, what supplies will those watching over things need? Make a list.””

Voskuhl added make sure those watching over your property have a way of getting a hold of you, should something happen, or if an animal is sick or comes up lame.  And when you prepare to leave, make sure you are ready for any security issues.

“If you’re flying, leave the pliers off the belt at home. Chances are you won’t be needing them, and there are travel restrictions with tools.  That pocket knife, you can have it checked in baggage, but not in the cabin.  Make sure it’s in the suitcase and not in your pocket.  And yes, they’ll want to check under your cowboy hat too.”

Voskuhl said if you’re traveling by car, remember what your folks told you.  Have a good spare tire, an emergency kit, drinkable water, as well as a blanket.  For additional tips from the AARP, Click Here.
