With snow covering much of the Inland Northwest, especially in the higher elevations and very cold weather, its important you plan ahead before traveling over area passes.  Marie Dodds  AAA told the Washington Ag Network trips that are typically uneventful in the summer, can take significantly more time during the winter months.  She added it’s important you have an emergency kit before you head out.

“You want to make sure you’ve got tire chains in your car, abrasive materials like sand or kitty litter incase you need to use it for traction a small shovel a flashlight with extra batteries, ice scraper flares or other warning devices booster cables and a first aid kit for you and your passengers.”

Dodds said it’s also important to pack additional blankets, coats, and food and water, just in case you’re stranded for a long period of time.
