Washington State University’s Oilseed workshops well take place next week across the Inland Northwest.  Karen Sowers with WSU told the Washington Ag Network the three workshops have information is tailored to the cropping systems in that respective area.  Sowers adds those who attend will learn not only from WSU experts, but also existing Northwet canola growers.

“It doesn’t matter if you’ve never grown it before, or if you’ve grown it for 20 years.  I guarantee there’s going to be something for everybody at these workshops.  And the big bonus is the networking with other producers who have or have not grown canola, and just hearing their experiences good or bad and learning from those.”

Sowers said with wheat prices so low, canola has become a more attractive alternative.  She said the Northwest recorded record canola acreage last season.

“The total was 221,000 [acres], Washington had 61,000.  All signs are pointing to we believe increased acres again of both winter and spring Canola.”

All three workshops run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and include lunch.  The Monday January 22nd workshop will take place in Hartline, Wednesday, January 24th in Richland, Thursday January 25th in Colfax.
