If you thought this winter has been a difficult one, between the cold and the snow, you’re absolutely right.

“In the Northwest we have most of our stations including Yakima, Walla Walla and Pendleton are in that category of having an extreme winter severity.  Probably not a whole lot of surprise for a lot of people though,” said Dennis Hull with the National Weather Service.

Hull told the Washington Ag Network that only a few locations across the nation had what forecasters consider a Severe Winter.  And Hull says the cold temperatures, clouds and stagnate air will stick around for the next couple of days.  Hull added we could see a new system roll in to the Northwest early next week, which could bring rain and perhaps snow.

“But having these cold temperatures and the persistent cold is kind of a blessing in disguise.  The silver lining around these grey clouds because it keeps the fruit trees, the grape vines in a dormant state.”
