Starting Monday WSU Extension will once again launch it’s “Cultivating Success: Agricultural Entrepreneurship and Farm Business Planning” course in Snohomish County.  Kate Ryan with WSU Snohomish told the Washington Ag Network many small farmers must face the reality of increased labor costs, insurance and more, and perhaps it’s time to look at expanding what you offer.

“Perhaps it would be better for me to add a set of value added products and introduce those to the marketplace.  Well to do something like that, you really need to have a good sound plan to discover first and formost, can it possibly pencil out.”

Ryan added with the changing business climate, its important growers stay up with the latest practices.  The course will feature a full line-up of new and current farmers, and guess speakers including bankers, business professional and others.  Ryan said the most important thing for farmers to take away from the course, is working through plans thoroughly before making any changes.

“Make the mistake on paper, not in real, because you can change it on paper.”
