National Teach Ag Day is Thursday, Sept 22nd and students in the Agriculture Education program at WSU are one of 11 finalists in a competition celebrating ag in the classroom with a 30-second commercial about the school.

WSU is the only school in Washington with an ag education program and Jacklyn Bennett said there’s a shortage of ag teachers in the country, so they wanted to enter the contest to get the word out about the program.

“Future ag teachers, current ag teachers, retired ag teachers coming together to celebrate the profession of teaching ag and to encourage people to get into the profession of teaching ag. Whether they are starting college or coming from the industry, however that may be.”

The contest is decided on the number of views of the YouTube video, but people watching need to view from different devices to count multiple times.

Danika Campos said they’re focusing on reaching as many people as possible to encourage people to join the profession, but also celebrate their own ag teachers.

“It’s a very underestimated profession I feel like sometimes and so it’s nice to get the word out and thank them for everything that they do.”
