WSDA: Sign Up Now For Free Pesticide Disposal
While the collection dates are a month away, the Washington State Department of Agriculture is encouraging you to sign up now for their free pesticide disposal days in Yakima, Prosser, Okanogan and Wenatchee. WSDA’s Joe Hoffman said with many operations moving in the organic direction, as well as federal requirements regularly changing, there are a host of pesticides that need to be safely removed. And he noted the WSDA does not have a limit regarding the amount of commercial-grade pesticides that can be turned in.
"That way if someone has an issue, the can get rid of all of those, rather than having to hold on to some of them and keep them from another year, if we have a limit. And all those limits seem to do is ensure the stuff stays out there longer.”
These collection events are not just limited to the agriculture community.
“We do serve anyone who has the agricultural or commercial grade pesticide. So, that can be a lawn care company a parks department, a city commercial applicator something of that sort.”
The WSDA has asked anyone planning on using the free pesticide disposal days to report inventory with the Department.
