WSDA Greenhouse Expanding in Prosser

The Washington State Department of Agriculture will be opening a new and improved greenhouse at WSU’s Irrigated Agriculture and Research Extension Center in Prosser.

Mike Louisell said this greenhouse is vital.

“It allows us to better support the fruit tree industry. We’re talking about the apples, the pears, the cherry industries and other stone fruits. We want to ensure that nurseries are getting the best, virus-free stock they can get to grow at their nurseries.”

The greenhouse is part of WSDA’s Fruit Tree Certification Program and replaces an existing greenhouse that is now too small to handle the case load.

This level of care and attention to detail on making sure Washington is producing the best, safest food will speak volumes according to Louisell.

“Because it will be just one more example of the quality of agricultural products that are grown in our state.”

This greenhouse will include three separate growing bays, better temperature control so true virus testing can take place and work areas for potting.

There will be a dedication ceremony and tours on May 11th from 12:00-1:00.
