Producers who are concerned about animal disease outbreak can be proactive by creating a written response plan.

Rod Massey of University of Missouri Extension said it can also allow producers to talk with banks to get help.

“’I have an idea to get through this but I need, essentially, a promissory note or a line of credit in case this happens that you’re aware of it.’ That goes a long way in helping you get through it.”

The written plan should include everyday biosecurity measures for an animal disease outbreak and contingencies and flexibilities on how producers would handle such an event.
