Washington Potato Company has agreed to pay a $100,000 civil penalty to settle a discrimination claim.   The suit, focused on WPC’s Pasco vegetable processing plant, Freeze Pack.  The U.S. Justice Department accused the company of discriminatory practices, requiring documents and paperwork from foreign workers that were not required of U.S. Citizens.

 

The Immigration and Nationality Act's anti-discrimination provisions prohibit employers from "subjecting employees to different or unnecessary documentary demands based on citizenship, immigration status or national origin."
