March is National Women’s Month and March 8th is International Women’s Day, but the number of women who are farm operators is declining.

That hasn’t discouraged University of Missouri student Nora Faris because she sees some positive indications.

“Maybe not so much in production agriculture because I’m not going into that field, but definitely in areas of agricultural business and different areas in the profession. I think women are definitely stepping up and taking their place.”

Faris said she was attracted to agriculture as a profession because of how important it is.

“I want something that is a little bit bigger than myself and by a little bit bigger I mean a lot bigger than myself and for me agriculture fulfilled that purpose.”

Faris said she has had several female role models in agriculture and hopes that one day she can inspire other women into the industry.
