Winter Weather Returns To The Inland Northwest

After being spoiled with abnormally warm weather, the Inland Northwest has returned to winter weather.  Marilyn Lohmann, meteorologist with the National Weather Service says that change was subtle, but the results were noticeable.

“The pattern shifted just enough, we started to get a more northerly flow out of Canada, and that in turn brought a couple of systems down with much colder air. But, relatively dry, even with that system that rolled through over the weekend.”

The above average temperatures during the first half of the month pushed soil temperatures in to the mid-40s in some locations, but Lohmann expects those figures to return closer to average.  As we look at the week ahead, she says the cooler temperatures will stick around as the skies become more active.

“Several weather systems to roll through over the weekend, and most will produce a mix of rain and even some snow in the lower elevations, and definitely snow in the mountains and along with that, there might be some breezy conditions.”

Lohman noted that could result in stress for some newborn livestock.  And she added temperatures are expected to get even colder as we prepare to wrap up February.
