It’s hard to believe but just a few weeks ago we were all done with the cold and snow that winter had pummeled us with for a couple of months.

Washington State Climatologist Nick Bond said it was the sixth wettest on record and that, “We haven’t had a winter this cold since ’92-’93, December through February period. So it’s been a while since we’ve had one this cold.”

Bond said the forecast going forward is for slightly warmer and dryer than normal as we get into the spring and summer.

One of the biggest benefits of this winter is for our irrigators according to Bond.

“This will be no surprise but we’re not lacking water at the upper part of the Columbia.”

Bond said the coldest part of the entire country, relative to average temperatures, over the winter was just north of Walla Walla.
