The wine industry continues to grow, develop and strengthen in Washington.  One of the reasons for that growth in recent years, according to Jenn Nance with Red Mountain AVA, is the intimate relationship many people have with the local wines, and wineries.

“It’s a social engagement for them.  They are able to have a unique experience in an agricultural industry without it seeming like it’s a farm.  You know you’re able to experience the passion and the craftsmanship in each winery.”

Nance added the Washington Wine industry is also enjoying success, thanks to the shop local, buy local movement across the Northwest.

“People like what Washington has going for them and they like to be able to say they met the wine maker they were able to taste and see where the grapes are grown and that all adds to the experience, and adds a consumer loyalty that a lot of areas can’t offer.”

Nance says one of the biggest issues facing the wine , adapting to consumers changing tastes, and dealing with a Millennial markets that’s becoming a larger drinker of wines.  She adds other more traditional agriculture issues, such as trucking and labor shortages also need to be addressed by the wine industry.
