The U-S House could still debate the Farm Bill this week, however,

"The Senate has not marked up their Farm Bill yet. So, we don't know...but probably won't see it until next week sometime,” said Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue.  But what if a new Farm Bill is not passed and signed before the current bill runs out later this year?

"Then they will extend the current Farm Bill for another year, continue to debate, and negotiate over the provisions of the Farm Bill. That creates a lot of problems, obviously, administratively with USDA, and the Farm Service Agency in trying to limp through another year in that area. But it also creates more problems for farmers who don't have a consistent planning mechanism for the years, going forward."

Perdue added especially in times of falling profits, farmers need certainty about farm programs.
