What Could Flip In House Mean For Ag?

With the Democrats set to take control of the House this month, many in the Ag industry are curious what that means on the farm and for the bottom line.  Add to that, what it means for the bank account as well, according to Ed Elfmann.  The Senior Vice President of Agriculture and Rural Bankers Policy at the American Bankers Association says not only are the democrats taking over the House, but several rural portions of the country flipped in 2018, which will impact the House Ag Committee and others.

“I would envision the Committee will focus a little more on nutrition, probably some of the trade issues that are going on.  It’s just going to look a little different going forward then it did for the past couple of years,  and, I don’t know if that’s a bad thing.”

Elfmann said the balance, or the yin and the yang as he put it, can result in good things for farmers.  But he said regardless of party affiliation, he wants to ensure farmers get the financial help they need.

“We’re going to work with whoever is there.  It doesn’t matter to us as much on party.  It’s about policy and issues and making sure we can do the best we can for the bankers.”
